Green Opal Glass Duck

An opal green glass duck - natural and stone-like, echoing jade and polished minerals.

Handmade in my Saltburn-by-the-Sea studio, these opal glass ducks explore the space between solid colour and transparency.

Each duck is shaped individually using lampworking techniques, working molten glass in the flame before carefully annealing it for strength. Opal glass isn’t fully opaque; instead, it allows light to move softly through the form, creating a gentle glow and a sense of depth within the colour.

The effect is subtle rather than shiny, with a calm, almost stone-like quality that’s often likened to jade. These ducks suit quieter interiors particularly well and are lovely displayed where light changes throughout the day.

As with all handmade glass, small variations in tone and form are part of what makes each piece unique.

Opal glass offers a different experience from opaque, transparent or frosted finishes — softly glowing rather than solid, see through or matt.
