Earrings made with beautiful frosted dark blue balls of transparent glass which glow as they catch the light. The glass balls hang from sterling silver hoops.
Measurements
Glass beads are approximately 7-8mm in diameter.
Ear wires are 18mm wide and 25mm long. The wires are made from 0.8mm sterling silver so they're comfortable and light to wear.
The earring has total length of around 35mm
What are the balls and earrings made from?
The beads are made from soda lime (soft) glass which is melted onto small stainless steel hooks.
The ear wires are made from sterling silver.
How are these earrings made?
We start by making the balls on the ends of the stainless steel posts. This fixes the glass securely without the need for drilling or glue. The earrings are then annealed to ensure strength and durability. The frosted finish is created by tumbling the earrings in a rock tumbler with sand, grit and water. Finally the earrings are cleaned, hung on ear wires and packed.
Photos
Glass is always interesting to photograph, and transparent glass looks very different on various backgrounds. Photos show the glass on several backgrounds - it's the same pair of earrings in each photo with the same camera settings so you can see how the glass colours shift. It's one of the things I love most about glass.

Care For Your Jewellery
The best way to care for silver is to keep it in airtight packaging such as the tin it comes in when it’s not being worn. If it does tarnish (which is completely normal) it can be cleaned with a silver polishing cloth. Glass can be cleaned with soap and water and polished with a soft cloth.
