A delicate chain necklace with a single frosted glass link which passes through five beads made with the transparent light brown glass recycled from a  marmite jar.

Measurements

The beads measure   approximately 14mm across the centre and 3mm wide. The link measures 31mm by 20mm. Together the link and beads are 37mm long.

The link is finished with a 45cm (18 inch) sterling silver trace chain. The chain closes with a bolt ring clasp which fastens through a jump ring.

How is this necklace made?

Creating this piece starts with recycling the glass and making the bead. Once it’s been annealed it’s cleaned. Then the link is created and the bead put in place before the link is closed. The piece is then annealed again before being tumble polished for several hours to give a frosted finish like sea glass. Finally the link is cleaned, polished and put onto a chain.

Each link and bead is made individually in our Yorkshire studio. The beads are created freehand rather than using a mould making every one unique. The beads can move freely round the link making it a lovely thing to play with as well as to wear.

What is the necklace made from?

The glass link is made from clear borosilicate glass. The beads are made with glass recycled from a marmite bottle. Full disclosure – I can’t stand marmite, but the glass is very pretty.

  • Care For Your Jewellery

    The best way to care for silver is to keep it in airtight packaging such as the tin it comes in when it’s not being worn. If it does tarnish (which is completely normal) it can be cleaned with a silver polishing cloth. Glass can be cleaned with soap and water and polished with a soft cloth.
